October 17th Weekly Update

Dear Parents,

Welcome back, everyone! We hope your fall break was full of fun and relaxation. Getting back to the grind can be a challenge, but the students seem to be settling in nicely. It’s hard to believe we are starting our second nine-week grading period.

Here is what is in store for this week:

Math – Division - Two, three, four digit quotients with remainders
TEST next week
Practice math/division facts at home with an app on a tablet or phone, flashcards, or websites. Students know how to access my Symbaloo page on my website for resources. Students should know multiplication and division facts with fluency.

Science – Chapter 3 Lesson 1 Animal Adaptations
Quiz Friday morning

Social Studies – Early explorers. The students have been assigned an explorer to research with a group. Each group is creating a keynote which will be presented on Thursday. All work will be done at school. No test this week.

Reading – Our focus is “theme” while reading folktales.

September 14 News

Dear Parents,

Our “Jim Go Jim” fundraiser was a HUGE success with over $2,000 raised. Thank you all for your support throughout the week. 

If you have not sent in the $10.00 to the homeroom room parent, please do so. Please make checks out to the room parent. (Elkins – Erica Hannah/Pugh – Sarah Jerge) Thank you for your attention in the matter.

If your child is interested in running for BSE Student Council, there is a MANDATORY meeting this Wednesday, September 14th in Mrs. Warren’s room.

Reading –      Comprehension Skills: Text Structure, Compare and Contrast

                        Vocabulary Strategy: Multiple Meaning Words

                        Genre: Informational Text/Expository Nonfiction

                        Continue our novel, The Birchbark House

Spelling -       Long e sound

Grammar –   Compound/Complex sentences

Writing -       Explanatory; cite evidence from text

Social Studies - Native Americans of Tennessee – Cherokee, Chickasaw, Creek

Test on Thursday: Study the vocabulary “The Three C’s” in your Social Studies notebook, the two “Top Hats” in the Social Studies notebook, and the study guide which we will start tomorrow in class.   

Math – Multiplying 2, 3, 4 digit numbers by a 1-digit number. No test this week.

Science – Energy needs in Ecosystems. No test this week.

Weeks Update - September 7, 2016

Dear Parents,

 

We hope you are having a great week. Here are the news items for the week and our topics of study.

 

  • Due to the holiday, Tuesday Folders will go home tomorrow.
  • We are collecting for “Go Jim Go” all this week. All donations are greatly appreciated!

 

ELA: This week, our focus is our novel study, The Birchbark House. Our goal is to read through chapter 8 this week. We will resume Wonders next week. No Reading assessment this week.

Writing:  Narrative Writing

Grammar: Subject/Predicate

Social Studies: Native Americans – Cherokee, Chickasaw, and Creek; No Social Studies assessment this week.

Math: Multiplication

We would like to thank our “Room Moms” who have volunteered to take this job this year. Please send your $10 in with your child and we will make sure the Room Moms receive it.
